The answers to why nails get weak and how we can fix them and strengthen them starting today!
Have you ever wondered why the girl next you has long beautiful nails? Have you ever had the problem of growing your nails and then they chip or break right when they start looking great? What about weak nails that constantly break or chip when you apply any pressure at all?
The biggest and main reason for having weak and brittle nails is too much exposure to water. If you expose your nails to excessive water, and do it often (bathing, washing dishes or clothes by hand or even swimming) this can lead to thinner nails which in turn makes your nails weaker. The best thing to do, if you can’t avoid using so much water in your daily activities, is to wear rubber gloves (okay, maybe that won’t work in the bath or in the swimming pool, but at least you can use them while washing dishes or clothes, or while cleaning).
Additionally, you need to keep in mind that diet is a big factor in your nail health. If you don’t eat well it will show! Ensure that you eat protein rich foods and foods that are rich in sulfur. When your body is missing biotin (found in calcium), that’s when your nails take a hit, so it’s also vital to watch your calcium intake.
Here are some easy-to-follow tips on strengthening your nails with ingredients right in your kitchen cupboard:
- The oil and lemon solution: Take one tablespoon of olive oil and mix it with a couple of drops of lemon juice. Rub this onto your nails and then put on some gloves. Leave the mixture on all night, twice a week. You can substitute olive oil for cooking oil if you prefer.
- Sea salt strong: In a bowl mix half a litre of warm water and add 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Put your fingers in the bowl for about 20 minutes. Once you have finished dry your hands and moisturize them. Do this every day for 10 days and then repeat monthly.
- Hydration help: Drinking at least 2 litres of water a day will not only helps strengthen your nails but also helps cleans the body and eliminate dull hair and dry skin.
- Moisture mania: Your hands need to be hydrated inside and out. Your moisturizing regime will take care of the outside while the water takes care of the inside.
- Got Calcium and Vitamin D? Regular servings of Calcium and Vitamin D is not just vital for nail health but also for the health of your teeth and hair. If you do not think you are getting enough in your diet already, take a vitamin supplement to help you reach the recommended daily intake.
