What is Caffeine? Caffeine is a bitter, white crystalline purine base, naturally found in plant tissue. The most commonly used plants that Caffeine is derived from are coffee, tea, Cola Tree nuts, cocao plants, Gaurana, and yerba mate.  Many of us use it for a wake-up kick in the morning!

Although it has not been officially proven, Caffeine is thought to be good for your skin and the skincare industry has picked it up for the less-common benefits it holds. Caffeine is believed to increase the flow of blood, which is useful in the breakdown of cellulite. It also gives a smooth and plumper appearance to skin, and is used to help varicose veins be less apparent.

Next time you brew yourself a cup of coffee or have some tea, reuse the grinds/bags for an at-home, beauty treatment. Here are a few ways to be environmentally friendly, recycle something, and maybe even make some great beauty gifts for your girlfriends!

Good Night to Cellulite

A great one for just before bed or your evening shower.

Mix 2 tablespoons of oil with 1 cup of cold or warm coffee or tea grounds, apply to the area affected by cellulite in a massaging circular motion until the area is covered. Let stand until dry, about 15-20 minutes, shower off and enjoy less visible cellulite!

Wake Me Up! Exfoliation

Good for in the morning!

Mix ½ cup of coffee or tea grounds with 2 eggs whites (use the yolks for breakfast!). Apply to body and rub in, then wash away feeling refreshed and awake with softer skin!

A Treat for Tired Skin

Use two tablespoons of either coffee or tea grounds and pat onto two individual paper towels or light rags. If grounds are dry ad ¼ of a teaspoon of water before placing on the paper towel or light rags. Tie them into small sacks and place over your eyes to relieve tired looking skin.
